THE NFU has postponed its mass rally in London over food standards because of the coronavirus situation.

Hundreds of farmers from across the country were due to gather in London on March 25 to join the NFU in a call to government to pledge that future UK trade policy will not allow imports of food produced to standards that would be illegal in the UK.

NFU Cymru president, John Davies, said: “In light of the current coronavirus situation, we have taken the decision to postpone our mass rally planned in London on March 25.

"We have taken this decision now because of the continued uncertainty regarding the spread of the disease and the size and nature of this event.

“While it is very disappointing, we have to be sensible and put everyone’s wellbeing at the heart of any decision.

"Along with the other UK unions, we will be looking to find a suitable date in the future to rearrange the rally but in the meantime, we will continue our campaign to ensure that any future trade agreements do not undermine the high standards which we produce food to here in Wales and the UK.”
