The cancellation of the 2020 Pembrokeshire County Show left a huge gap in the agricultural and social calendar of the county.

But organisers have done their best to fill it with a virtual version of the show on the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society Facebook page.

It began with the Virtual Sunday Service on Sunday, August 16, led by Cllr Huw George.

Traditionally held on the Sunday preceding the show, this service is an important and much-loved element of show week build up.

On the Monday, Farming Connect staged a webinar chaired by show president Stephen James.

It included an address by rural affairs minister Lesley Griffiths along with a panel of, all of whom have connections to the show.

They were Huw Thomas, managing director of Puffin Produce Ltd, Haverfordwest, one of Pembrokeshire’s most progressive expanding agri-food companies; Non Thorne, of Studdolph Herefords, Milford Haven, with a long family connection to PAS as top exhibitors and office holders; Claire Morgan, of Crundale, partner in a diverse farming business and county chair of the NFU, and Angharad Edwards, of Clarbeston Road, the 2020 society ambassador and Pembrokeshire YFC Rally Queen, and a member of Llysyfran YFC.

This was followed by a question and answer session on topics ranging from food production to exhibiting, and much in between.

The week’s events also featured ‘taste of the show’ social media posts with a couple of local celebrities cooking up a storm, and a chance to win a year’s supply of monthly ice cream treats with Lochmeyler Farm Ice-Cream.

There is also a Blas y Tir competition to win a meal for two at the fabulous St Brides Spa Hotel, courtesy of Puffin Produce.
