HAVING recently celebrated his 80th birthday, friends and family of Fred Jones, Penhill, Penrhiwllan, organised a charity tractor run which saw 68 vintage tractors take part before returning to the farm for lunch.

The run was around 20 miles in length and left Fred's farm, heading out to Croeslan. After crossing the A486 the drivers then went on to Tregroes and up to Prengwyn.

A short run down to Pontsian then saw the tractors head on to Talgarreg where they took a minor road past Crug yr Eryr quarry up the valley ending back on the A486 which they used for around a mile heading to Ffostrasol. The long convoy of tractors then headed for Penrhiw Pal and Coed y Bryn then ending up at Aberbanc.

A short run back up to Penrhiwllan and Fred’s farm saw a welcoming dinner await the drivers put on by Fred and his family.

A total of £1,800 has been raised to date and proceeds from the day’s raffle, charity auction and donations will go to the Welsh Air Ambulance and CDU Ward at Glangwili hospital in Carmarthen.

Fred wishes to thank all those who took part and helped to organise what was a very successful day.
