A GROUP of swimmers braved the thick fog last Saturday to take part in the Caerfai Bay Challenge.
Barbara Ellen Lewis organised the sponsored event to raise funds for the local RNLI branch.
It began with a one mile walk to Caerfai Bay from Oriel y Parc, followed by a swim out to the point on the right of the bay, across the bay, around Penpleidiau and then back to the beach.
The St Davids Penknife Club was selling burgers in the car park and the local band Dysons Wake played in the Rafa Club in the evening.
Speaking to the Western Telegraph before the swim, Barbara said: “I’m excited. We have about 15 to 20 swimmers taking part, there would have been more but one of the lifeboat crew is getting married today. This is just the first one, the first of many I hope.”
Kevin Thompson, who was holidaying in St Davids, added: “It’s really great. I swim the coast regularly and this swim shouldn’t take much longer than an hour. It’s about 20 lengths of a 50m swimming pool.”
Barbara has raised almost £700 and hopes to exceed £1,000.
