PUPILS at Pembroke’s Golden Grove School/Ysgol Gelli Aur have enjoyed sporting success, fundraising, and even meeting snakes, toads and newts recently.
The newly-appointed school library pupil monitors have been organising and tidying the resources and ensuring that books are loaned and returned properly.
Both the boys’ and girls’ football teams have seen recent successes.
The girls’ team was runner-up in the Urdd football festival at Tenby recently. They beat Cosheston, Neyland, Hafan y Mor and St. Florence in the early rounds before beating Lamphey in the semi-final to play Saundersfoot in the final.
In a hard-fought match, it was Saundersfoot who came out on top during a golden goal decider.
The boys were also playing in the Urdd festival, they played some fantastic football but succumbed to Tenby in the quarter finals, losing 2-1 in a closely fought match.
The whole school enjoyed a visit by Peter Hill from the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust.
Peter gave a presentation to every class in the school during which he showed the pupils a grass snake, slow worm, toad and a very rare crested newt. He stressed the importance of habitat creation and conservation and explained how the recently established pond in the school grounds will become a significant wildlife haven.
In other school news, £350 was raised at the recent Macmillan ‘every slice fills me up’ cake and coffee morning.
Head Teacher Andy Williams said: “The pupils and staff have enjoyed partaking in a wide range of activities in school. We are most grateful for all the support we get from family and friends.”
