A BEAUTY therapist and agricultural auctioneer have been appointed as the new Fishguard and Goodwick town councillors.

Following the departures of Lorraine Howells, Chris John and Adam Benson-Davies, vacancies for the Fishguard North West, Fishguard North East and Goodwick wards were advertised by the town clerk in January.

Miss O’Connor and Mr Edwards were interviewed and appointed on February 24, with Mr Edwards sworn in at the last town council meeting.

Miss O’Connor, 28, is a self employed mobile beauty therapist from Goodwick.

She has been heavily involved in the Save Our Playgrounds campaign, which called for better play equipment for children living in the twin towns.

Miss O’Connor said: “I am excited to be joining the town council as I would like to contribute to bringing Fishguard and Goodwick back up to the high regard where it used to stand.

“I think with a positive attitude and the right mind set we can all make the improvements needed if we work as a community.”

Mr Perkins of Pencaer has been an agricultural auctioneer and valuer for more than 50 years, but has cut down on his professional work load recently.

He said: “I could see the opportunity to get some involvement and there are a number of items in our area which are worth considering, such as how do you regenerate town and country areas and how do you look at possible reorganisation of local government while trying to keep off the actual politics of it?”

The Mayor, Councillor Mike Lloyd welcomed the new recruits and said he looked forward to working with them.
