The former honorary curator of Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, Kathy Talbot, has received a top Welsh volunteering award.

Dr Talbot recently stepped down from the post but remains as a trustee of the museum, which is the oldest independent museum in Wales.

At the recent Wales Volunteer of the Year ceremony in Cardiff, she was presented with the Trustee award by Welsh Government minister Jeff Cuthbert AM.

“There are one million volunteers in Wales, and in a country of three million people that says something very important to us,” he commented.

Dr Talbot, aged 61, was nominated by fellow museum trustee Neil Westerman, who has now succeeded her as honorary curator.

He described her as ‘a committee, enthusiastic and dedication team leader’, and revealed that she gave more than 30 hours a week of her time to the museum.

He added: “Through her leadership skills, the museum and art gallery has been transformed.

“By working to ensure the long-term sustainability of the museum, Kathy has also helped ensure it will survive and prosper for many years to come.”
