A FLORIST is looking forward to a blooming good year ahead as she serves as mayor of Narberth for the third time.

Councillor Elizabeth Rogers officially took office at the town council’s annual general meeting last week.

She was the unanimous choice of her colleagues to succeed the outgoing mayor, Councillor Sue Rees.

She was proposed by Councillor Rees and seconded by the most senior council member, Councillor Eric Feetham.

Councillor Rogers, who was town mayor in 2007/2008 and 2011/2012, follows in the footsteps of her father who was a Narberth town councillor and former mayor.

“I’m humbled to be mayor of our town as a time when Narberth Town Council is looking into a most challenging year,” she told members.

Councillor Rogers, who works at Next Door Flower Shop in Narberth’s High Street, has been married to Tony for 26 years and the couple have two daughters, Jemma and Abby.

Jemma is in her second year studying photography in Cardiff, and is spending this term in Norway, while Abby is in her final year at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf, Whitland, where she is doing her A levels.

One of the organisers of Narberth Civic Week, the new mayor is also a volunteer at the Bus Stop youth project and helps with the rugby club bingo, as well as supporting many other local groups and organisations, including the Narberth group of Slimming World.

The deputy mayor will be Councillor Jeremy Griffiths, and the mayoress will be Councillor Rogers’ sister, Elaine Bradbury.

Pastor Paul Dando led the council in prayer before the council meeting continued.
