Mr F J Newton

Pembroke

MR Frederick John Newton of Whitehall Drive, Pembroke passed away on May 19 at his home.

He was 74.

As a native of Pembroke Dock, Fred left school at 16 years of age and worked as an apprentice rigger at the dockyard in Pembroke Dock, then spent several years in the merchant Navy travelling the world.

He then joined Texaco and from 1970 he worked in the petro- chemical industry, visiting various countries including Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Russia, China, Iraq and Libya.

Fred’s last job was for LNG at South Hook.

His main interests were country sports including fishing and shooting and a love of the countryside and nature.

He had various cats and dogs, Charlie brown a brown Labrador, Barney a black Labrador and Ginger Tom the cat.

He was predeceased by his wife Victoria Joy newton.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Nicholas, Simon, James and Mathew (sons); Rachel (daughter); Juliet, Shelley and Tanya (daughters-in-law); Dai Newton, Mary Jones and Hazel Felton (brother and sisters); Ben, Joseph, Rebecca, Lily- May, Leah, Paisley and Theo (grandchildren).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and it was officiated by Rev Paul Nash.

The bearers were Nicholas Newton, Simon Newton, James Newton (sons); Dai Newton (brother).

Donations in lieu of flowers for Green Acres Animal Rescue, Macmillan Cancer Support, Cancer Research c/o E C Thomas and Sons, Funeral Directors, Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg, Narberth SA67 8QH, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr H G Price

Merlins Bridge

MR Harold Gwynfor Price (Ken) of St Issells Avenue, Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest who passed away on June 19 at Withybush General Hospital.

He was 85.

Harold, one of four children, was born in his beloved town of Johnston on June 18 1932, to Joseph and Rose Lilly of Langford Road, Johnston.

Harold was a very loving and caring and resourceful person who was very independent and always kept busy helping friends and providing for his family.

A hard working man all his life, which included farming, then he joined the Merchant Navy as a Chief Engineer and then later a foreman fitter for Mowlem’s Construction Group.

He continued his caring ways looking after his grandchildren, which were his pride and joy.

Pre-deceased by both his beloved wife Vera and daughter Sarah he leaves to mourn Martin and Susan, Mark and Jan, Christopher and Jackie, Simon and Karen (sons and daughters-in-law); Phillip and Lydia, Daniel and Rebecca, David and Larissa, Rhiannon and Harrison, Sophie and Ashleigh and Geraint and Sion; great grandchildren Lloyd, Rhianne and Bella.

The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth was officiated by Rev Fr Harri Williams.

The bearers were Phillip, Daniel, Ashleigh and Geraint, Sion.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son of Cartlett, Haverfordwest.

Mr C R Sparkes

Broad Haven

MR CHARLES Roy (Ned) Sparkes of Broad Haven passed away at Highgrove Care Home, Haverfordwest on June 21.

He was 91.

During his life he was a D Day veteran, a Royal Naval Officer, Colonial Police, Metropolitan Police and also worked for the construction company Wimpy.

His interests included being a keen sailor and golfer.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Helen Livingston (daughter); Jane Harries Sparkes.

The funeral was held on June 30 at St Martin’s Church, Haverfordwest followed by interment at City Road Cemetery, Haverfordwest.
