MRS Marguerite Catherine Maud Murdoch, known as Peggy passed away at Park House Court Nursing Home, Tenby on June 28.

She was 92.

Originally from Milford Haven, Peggy started her working life with Charles Dairies when she was 15 years old delivering milk on a horse and cart around Hubberston and Hakin.

During the war years and beyond, Peggy worked as a telegraphist in Milford Haven Post Office on Hamilton Terrace for eleven years. From 1955-87, Peggy was a landlady of the Commercial Inn, later known as The Stage Coach Inn in Stepaside.

Her main interests in her younger days were taking her boat out on Milford Haven and around the islands, and once took Sir Peter Scott out to Grassholm Island to see the nesting gannets. It was one of the most remarkable sights he had ever seen.

Peggy also loved gardening and nature. It was in the garden she felt closest to nature spending many happy hours there.

Photography was also a great love of hers, taking many a photo of the beauty spots around Pembrokeshire.

She was predeceased by her husband Alistair James Murdoch (John) only the week before on June 20.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Alistair (son); Joy (daughter); Janet (daughter-in-law); Catherine and Rosemary (nieces); Michael and Moyra (nephew and niece, Scotland).

The service was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth on July 14.

It was officiated by Revd Steve Bessant.

The bearers were Terry Jones, Wayne Williams, Michael Imlach and Brian Fellowes.

Donations to the Paul Sartori Foundation and Tenby and Saundersfoot District Nurses c/o E C Thomas and Son, Zoar Chapel Funeral Home, Llanteg, Narberth who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mr W G Phillips

Porthgain

GWYNFOR of Morawel, Porthgain, died at home unexpectedly but peacefully on August 2 aged 86.

He was the second of three children of Willie and Margaret Ann Phillips of Abereiddy When the family were washed out of their home during a winter storm in 1938, they eventually made their home in Porthgain.

Gwynfor never married, living with his parents until they died and then as companion to his widowed sister Irene.

He worked as a farmhand at Barry Island Farm at Trecwn and finally at the Junior Ranks Mess at Brawdy, as a kitchen assistant.

He was an independent soul.

The cremation arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons with the service officiated by the Rev Geoffrey Eynon.

Mr A J Jamieson

Hakin

THE death occurred on July 23 of Mr Alexander James (Sandy) Jamieson of Gorswood House, Gorsewood Drive, Hakin.

Sandy died peacefully at home aged 76.

He was the youngest child of Leonard and Marie Jamieson, Gorsewood House.

Having attended Hakin Junior School, he then went to The Royal Russell School in Addington, Surrey to complete his education.

On leaving he joined Lowe and Sons Antique Restorations for some years before returning to join the family run firm of Whicher and Jamiesons, Charles Street, Milford Haven, where he remained until the business closed in 1970.

He pursued several occupations throughout the country before finally settling down back at Gorsewood to become a self-employed carpet fitter up until the time of his retirement.

His main interests were Gorsewood House, the family home, sculling, rowing and all water sports, and carpet fitting.

He was a committee member of Hakin Point RNLI and supported many fund raising events for the RNLI.

The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Phyllis (wife); Cowan and Jocely (brother and sister-inlaw); Marie (sister); Gwyneth and Dickie (sister-in-law and husband); Mrs Sheila Handcock, Mrs Jan Bellamany, Mr Ian Jamieson, Mr Max Jamieson, Mrs Susan Brown (USA) (1st cousins) and many nieces and nephews.

A service of thanksgiving was held at St Marys Church, Hakin on Monday July 31, officiated by the Rev Josh Maynard.

A tribute was made by his brother Mr Cowan Jamieson followed by a service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, where a tribute was made by Mr John Haughey followed by cremation.

The bearers were Tom Jamieson, Graham Bevan, Tom Cooper and Huw Jones.

Donations in lieu of flowers if wished in memory of Hakin Point RNLI may be sent to Mr John Haughey, 12 Hayston Avenue, Hakin, Milford Haven SA73 3EB.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, of Milford Haven.
