A steer from the Roberts family of Bala made it a hat-trick of successes at the Mold Christmas Show and Sale 2020.
Auctioneers J Bradburne Price and Co reported a good entry of 12 show cattle, all of which were of a very high standard.
The judge, Mr Daniel Morris, selected a fantastic steer from Arwel and Deio Roberts, Ty Nant, as overall champion – the third consecutive year the family have taken top accolade.

PRIME CATTLE
Best single butcher's heifer: D B and H and I Owen, Rhyd y Defaid, Caergybi, weighing 690kg and made 295p/k. It was purchased by the judge, Mr Daniel Morris, Denbigh. Second prize went to W P Hughes and Sons, Fferm Uchaf, Llanbabo, and was purchased by Chris Gore on behalf of Staffordshire Meatpackers.
Best single butcher's bullock: A Roberts, Ty Nant, Bala, 575kg and made 360p/k. It was purchased by the judge, Mr Daniel Morris. Second prize was awarded to W Roberts, Cil Llwyn, Bontuchel, and was purchased by Ralph Pearson, Wholesale Butcher, Bradford,
Best young bull: A Evans, Foel Cathau, Llangernyw, 570kg and made 230p/k. It was purchased by Gwyn Jones Wrexham on behalf of Najib and Son, Derbyshire.
Champion butcher's bullock or heifer: A Roberts, Ty Nant, 575kg and made 360p/k. It was purchased by the judge.
Reserve champion: D B and H and I Owen, Rhyd y Defaid, Caergybi, 690kg and made 295p/k. It was purchased by the judge.
OTM CATTLE
Highest overall priced beef cross cow over 48 months: J Lewis, Cellar Farm, Ty Croes. The six-year-old cow weighed 760kg and made 179p/k, totalling £1360.40. It was purchased by Emyr Williams, Pwllheli.
Highest overall priced dairy cross cow over 48 months: Church Farm Dairies, Birchenfield, Chester. The six-year-old cow weighed 845kg and made 117p/k, totalling £988.65. It was purchased by Arthur Williams, Bretton.
LAMBS
J Keith Lewis Memorial Tankard for the best pen of four or more lambs: D L Connah, St Deniols Ash Farm, Hawarden. The lambs weighed 48kg and made 250p/k (£120). They were purchased by C J’s Butchers, Mold. Second prize was awarded to Peter Jeffs, Old Pale Farm, Kelsall, which were purchased by Conwy Valley Meats.
