A Welsh organic dairy co-operative based in Whitland, has been named producer of the year in the BBC Radio 4 food and farming awards.
Iwan Jones, one of Calon Wen’s farmer directors, said: “We are stunned and thrilled to have won the Radio 4 award, which confirms that we are doing the right things at Calon Wen.
“The judges were impressed that a small group of farmers are working together so successfully, because there are too few examples of this, and that is the key to our success. In the end it’s a group effort as it’s down to the commitment of every single one of our members that we have achieved this success.”
Calon Wen was the first organic milk co-operative to achieve registered organic status with the Soil Association and its milk was the first branded organic milk to be sold by a major supermarket.
