The second Snooker and Pool Fun Day in aid of Autism Cymru was deemed a big success at Eddie's Snooker and Social Club in Haverfordwest on Sunday.

The highlights of the afternoon were watching snooker legend Dennis Taylor, TV favourite Willie Thorne and Welsh potter Dominic Dale, take on all-comers in games of pool.

And rising teenage sensation, Jamie Jones, took on anyone who fancied their chances in one frame of snooker, all in aid of a worthwhile cause.

Autism Cymru's event co-ordinator was Laura Morgan and the event was sponsored by Eddie's, Chevron and the Western Telegraph.

Balfour Club's Terry McBride and Scott McQuarry beat Glyn Griffiths and Tim Davies, of the Star Club, in Pembroke Dock, to win the Blands' Pembrokeshire snooker league pairs tournament competed on the day.

Treasurer Alan Gordon organised the pairs competition, while Mackie King and Phil Thomas were referees.

MC for the day was Bill Carne and the Western Telegraph Sport rugby correspondent kept everyone well informed with a running commentary.

Charismatic 1985 world champion Dennis Taylor, performed a trick shots session with Willie Thorne, who was suffering with a bad back but still performed brilliantly in front of an appreciative audience.

The evening finished with a raffle and Taylor auctioned a signed England cricket shirt donated by pace bowler Simon Jones, which was flogged for £160. A snooker cue signed by all the stars went for £100 and a HD television, donated by Vaughan's of Haverfordwest, sold for £300.

Speaking after the event Dennis Taylor said: "I've really enjoyed myself. The people in Pembrokeshire are fantastic. Mark Edwards has a brilliant club here in Eddie's and it was great to work with Willie Thorne and Dominic Dale again. It was also nice to meet Jamie Jones, he could be a future world champion. But most of all I hope we raised a lot of money for Autism Cymru and I wish to visit Haverfordwest again."
