Amateur boxers from Merlins Bridge ABC have certainly been making a name for themselves with a number of notable successes at shows competing at club and international level.
Well respected trainer Graham Brockway is extremely proud of his youngsters who have been performing and winning in shows up and down the country.
“I’m really happy with the way my boxers have performed at recent shows,” said Brockway. “They’ve all been training hard, and they got their just rewards with some fantastic results.”
Alex O’Sullivan fought in the 50kg class for Wales in a show against England, held in Birmingham, talented Alex was awarded a unanimous points’ verdict against England’s Kieron Brennon over three two minute rounds.
In the 38kg bout, Bridge’s George Scale, 12, gained an impressive victory over Lloyd Lewis, of Swansea.
Nia Smith, 15, had too much fire power and class for Towy’s Kira Gollanders to cope with, stopping her opponent in the second round of their 56kg bout.
Orthodox boxer, Thomas Bradford, 72kg, has been extremely busy, the 20 year old impressively winning three bouts in a row, with a points’ verdict and two stoppages.
James Griffiths, 20, gained an impressive unanimous points’ verdict against Calum Lewis (Wales & Army) over three two minute rounds in the 75kg category.
There was also a terrific victory for Lewis Burrows, 15, he had too much class for Calum Smith (Birmingham), and won the bout on points over three two minute rounds.
