There was an entertaining and yet poignant football clash at Jesse Road, Narberth on Saturday as the home club took on a Richards Select XI in the first ever Chris Richards Memorial Game.
The select side was put together by Tom Richards, the son of Chris who also pitched the original idea for the game, and Paul 'Bilko' Harries.
Played on a heavy pitch and well refereed by Huw George in a festive outfit, the match was certainly entertaining with comic own goals and players on shoulders of teammates at times to get an advantage at corners!
The game eventually finished 5-5, with young Luke Hughes scoring the goal of the game after seemingly mesmerising the Narberth defence.
It was Richards Select XI who then prevailed on penalties - rounding off a fitting tribute to local sporting stalwart Chris, who died suddenly in January this year, aged 53.
Indeed, prior to kick off, a minute's silence was held in his memory, and afterwards players and supporters went to the Narberth RAOB where a special hot and cold buffet was laid on.
All proceeds from the day and subsequent raffle were shared between Narberth Cricket Club, Narberth Football Club and Narberth First Responders.
There are now plans to make the game an annual Boxing Day event.
