THE first ever Stuart Lewis tag tournament proved a stunning success, in terms of weather and rugby, at Pembroke Dock on Saturday.

More than 200 people descended on the club with 16 teams entered, and it proved a fitting tribute to the late Stuart, who was so instrumental at the club - taking charge of the mini section for more than 30 years.

The winning team were ‘Yogs Otters’, led by Narberth player Jonathan Rogers, with the ‘Red Cow Army’ from Crymych, captained by Aled Harris, taking the Spoon competition. Player of the tournament was Liam Hutchings (Yogs Otters).

But it was about more than trophies, with players young and old, some who regularly feature for local clubs and many with little experience, coming together to put on a fantastic tournament.

Scottish international Luke Hamilton also entered a team and had high praise for everyone involved and Gareth Scourfield, who helped organise the event, said: “Afterwards everyone agreed it was a great day and played in a really good spirit.

"We are now going to do this as an annual event and are looking to go bigger next year."
