IT began in pouring rain yet ended in sunshine - as the annual Tenby 10K again went down a storm among competitors and supporters alike on Sunday.

And there was little surprise when the winner came in - British marathon runner Josh Griffiths who last April, represented Wales in the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast.

The Swansea Harrier battled the adverse conditions to finish in 32.33, someway off his personal best, but more than three minutes ahead of second placed David Kennan (35:48).

Joshua Liddle was only seven seconds off Kennan in third (33:55).

“It’s not a bad place to finish a race,” said Griffiths afterwards.

“It was nice to win and despite the weather, it was very good fun.”

The first female over the line was Michelle Cole from the 3M Gorsenion Running Club, coming 17th overall in 41:27.

Second female home was Sioned Howells (41:48), with Caryl Davies third (42:13).

Race Director Simon Scurrell declared himself pleased wit the event, with 504 runners taking to that start line.

"Thankfully the weather cleared in time for the start with the runners winding heading out to Penally and then back into Tenby,” he said.

“Once again the event was very well supported, both out on the course, and with a large number of people gathering in Tudor Square to welcome the runners home.

“There was a real family atmosphere and we would like to thank our sponsors: Howies, WP Lewis and Sons, Run and Become, and Bwlchygroes Farm Feeds for their continued support,” he added.

The race was organised and hosted by the Taf Running and Orienteering Team, St. Clears (www.trots.org.uk).
