Pembroke County Cricket Club Under 11s Junior League Final: Lawrenny 306-2 beat Hook 221-3 by 85 runs

LAWRENNY were the winners of the 2018 Under 11s title after beating hosts Hook in what was a repeat of the 2017 affair.

Both teams finished top in zone A and B respectively - coming through their groups with a 100% record with Hook beating Whitland in the semi final and Lawrenny beating Kilgetty.

The Under11s game is played in a pairs format and Finley Lewis, captain of Lawrenny, won the toss and asked his counterpart from Hook, Liam Miller, to bat.

The Lawrenny team all bowled extremely well with very few loose deliveries and although the Hook side only lost three wickets they found runs hard to come by - with Liam Miller (13) and Oscar Willington (9) top scoring.

For Lawrenny, Rhys Daly (1-0), Finley Lewis (1-4), and Connor Davies (1-13) took the wickets.

It was always going to be a big ask to defend this total and all the Hook bowlers tried their best but on the night they found Lawreny in scintillating form.

An explosive start from Rhys Eynon (11) and Connor Davies (12) laid the platform. The stroke making continued in the middle overs with Noah Williams (10), Oscar Lewis (9), Rhys Daly (8),and Harry Morgan (9).

The final pair of Ollie Arthur (4) and Finley Lewis took Hook to victory.

Credit must go to Lewis, the latest boy from Pembrokeshire to gain a Welsh Cap, who scored an incredible 31 in the last partnership.

Callum Nutty (1-8) and Oscar Willington with a run out were the Hook wicket takers. And to be fair to Hook they never gave up and offered 100% commitment throughout the game.

In the presentation after the match Martin Jones (Junior Organiser) congratulated both sides on reaching the final with some excellent play - and also Lawrenny for their victory. He added both sides should be proud of their junior sections. He thanked Hook for hosting including Phil Griffiths, the groundsman, and afterwards the club laid on sausage and chips for the players which was well received. It was first time Hook had staged a final and surely it won’t be there last.

Martin also thanked umpires Simon Richards and Robert Ridge, and scorers Jon Willington and Julian Arthur, who all contributed to a night of entertainment.

Last and by no means least he thanked Sponsors Colin and Angela John, Llewelyn Davies & Co Chartered Accountants, for their continued and valuable support of junior cricket in the county. Paul Webb, Pembroke County Cricket Club Chairman, and his wife Janice, were also in attendance with their support.
