Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division 2: Solva 2-7 Fishguard Sports

Fishguard Sports got their campaign off to a flying start at Solva, striking seven times for a convincing win in awful conditions.

The home side had to name manager Luke Phillips in goal with regular keeper Aled Davies running late, but it was even first 20 minutes before the Sports upped the tempo.

Steve Lewis clipped a shot just wide of the top corner before the away side took the lead, with Sean Thomas' flick on finding Jac Pepper at the back post, and he kept his cool to drill a shot across Phillips into the bottom corner.

The pressure continued as Matt Harries hit he side netting against his old club, but soon after it was 2-0 as Lewis Banks planted home a header from 10 yards out.

However, just before half time the Greens got back into it as Luke Jones was taken out by Fishguard keeper Dave Pepper in the box, and after referee Bradley Flood pointed to the spot, Liam Thomas made no mistake.

The goals then flowed after the break, with Lewis making it 3-1 soon after the restart as he turned home a Ieuan Llewellyn cross.

Again Solva responded as Harry Elliott went through and with the Sports appealing for offside, rifled a shot past Pepper and into the net.

But after that it was one way traffic as Gareth Mathias restored the two goal lead with a neat finish, and then sub Keegan Summers made it five from Dean Hopson's lay off.

The same player added the sixth, pouncing on the rebound from Thomas' shot, and then Lewis rounded off the scoring with a low shot that evaded Phillips.
