Wayne Jones has moved into the mangerial hot seat at Haverfordwest County, announced by the club this morning.

Telegraph Sport broke earlier in the week that Sean Cresser and Haverfordwest County had parted company, and the club have quickly announced that Jones will take over the reins at the Conygar Bridge Meadow Stadium.

Jones has previously been manager of the Bluebirds had a couple of seasons with Welsh Premier side Aberystwyth Town, but resigned at the end of last season. He was initially alone and then with Tony Pennock, and continued as assistant to Neville Powell last season, which ended in a Welsh Cup Final in May.

The club released a statement: “We are pleased to announce that Wayne Jones has been appointed as the first team manager of Haverfordwest County AFC and Tim Hicks will continue in his position as assistant manager.

“Mickey Ellis and Ben Ventura will also continue in their respective roles as part of the management team.

“We wish our new management team and their talented squad of players every success through the season.”

Wayne Jones said: “It was a bitter sweet situation for me. Sean Cresser and I are good pals and he has done a brilliant job, but things happen in football and life that you don’t have any control.

“I was delighted to be offered the job again with the club, and there was no way I was turning it down after speaking with the players and staff.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of taking the team forward and following on all the good work that Sean Cresser has done over the years.

“We’ve had a decent start to the season and I will be striving to keep the continuity going.”
