Horse riding is very much a family affair for the Mansell family from Kilgetty - and one which is bringing them success!

Sophie, 6, attends Tavernspite School and has ridden her pony 'Tezzamaine Absolutely Fabulous Fergie', a strawberry roan 9-year-old mare to two wins, four second places and the Supreme Eye of the Beholder champions title at the David Broome Event Centre in the summer.

Incredibly, Sophie has only been riding properly since February - while sister Erin is only two-years-old and goes to Tavernspite Play Group.

And yet along with pony Newfield Lazlo, who is 23, she ironically won the veteran section at the same event, was reserve champion in the novelty section and also entered into the Supreme Championships.

She received a special announcement for becoming the youngest rider to ever get into the Supreme Championships at the event centre while Lazlo was the oldest pony to compete in it!

Both girls are trained regularly by their mum Stefanie, a successful dressage rider herself, through SFM Equestrian Coaching, and are sponsored by Station Garage Kilgetty.

"Many thanks to everyone who supports the girls in a very time consuming sport," she said.

"They work hard looking after their ponies but Adam Evans, the farrier, and Cotts Farm Equine Clinic in Narberth help keep them in tip top condition.

"And we have to thank Tavernspite School who have allowed for additional time off to pursue their sport and their grandparents whose time and support we rely greatly upon."
