She is one of six Pembrokeshire rowers ready to take on the World’s best in October, but Tyenne Morgan is now seeking sponsorship to help her fulfil her dream of representing Wales in Canada.

The 25-year-old, a member of the Towy Boat Club, last month took part in the British Rowing Offshore Championships in Poole, Dorset. Along with fellow county rowers Sarah Parker, Swyn Williams, Alison Morris, Linsey Jones, Amy Lawrence, and Bryony Jones, she made the 12-strong national squad for the World Coastal Championships in Victoria in October (although unfortunately Linsey can’t travel to compete).

“The weekend was mentally and physically challenging,” said Tyenne.

“The weather conditions gave us rough water conditions for each race, making the 6km course difficult to manoeuvre around, and this accompanied with a high standard of competition made for tough races.

“Throughout the season we have entered races from the local Celtic League to the Swedish Open. However, for this event, BROC presented the unique opportunity for the top five crews in each race category to represent Great Britain for the World Coastal Championships in Victoria, Canada. This was an opportunity we, as local Pembrokeshire rowers, could not pass up.

“At the end of the weekend seven of us came away with a GBR ranking, including two crews finishing the weekend on the podium.

“We are now in the position where we have the opportunity to represent Great Britain in coastal sculling in Canada and I still can’t believe it,” admitted Tyenne, who will compete with Sarah Parker in the ladies’ doubles, and with Tom Brain in the mixed doubles.

“My aim is just to go as far as possible but would love a final place and a medal.”

However, participation in the event, that runs from October 11th-14th, will cost around £1500 per crew member in flight, accommodation, entry, and equipment costs.

“As this is an unfunded sport we are asking for people and businesses to support local rowers with an incredible opportunity,” said the former Ysgol Y Preseli pupil, who now lives in Penally.
