Welsh Veterans League: Hakin United Over 40s 5-0 Brewers Lodge Over 40s
Striker Matthew Price hit a hat trick as Hakin Over 40s began this season's Veteran League campaign by hammering Brewers Lodge 5-0 at The Obs.
The Vikings were on the front foot early on as Price headed wide and Chris Edwards volleyed over after being put in in goal by Richard Nash.
Shaun Mills also dragged a volleyed effort across goal while at the other end, Mark Hughes flashed a 20 yard shot wide for Trefelin.
But midway through the half the deadlock was broken by Price, tapping in after Nigel Delaney's free kick had been fumbled into his path.
And moments later the same player doubled the lead in style, hitting a first time shot from 20 yards that dipped and curled into the net.
Home keeper Jim Payne was forced into a good save from a free kick but early in the second half Price completed his hat trick, rounding the keeper before slotting in from a tight angle.
The scorer then turned provider as his corner was headed home by Michael McCarthy, and Paul 'jonah' Jones completed the rout when we went clean through and planted a low left foot shot into the bottom corner.
It meant a good start to the campaign for the Veteran Vikings, ahead of a testing away trip to Swansea University Over 40s next Sunday.
Hakin United Over 40s squad: Jim Payne, Nigel Delaney, Richard Bland, Ali Davies, Anthony Aldred, Adam Collins, Richard Nash, Stuart MacDonald, Chris Edwards, Shaun Mills, Jamie Phillips, Michael McCarthy, Paul Jones, Matthew Price, Leigh Walters.
