Fishguard Sports and St Florence were the two Pembrokeshire club winners at the annual West Wales FA Regional Grassroots Football Awards.

The Sports were crowned the Community Club of the Year following their work in recent years in junior, female, and disability football, as well as running two sides at senior level.

The club currently has seven junior boys' teams, four junior girls' teams and a junior disability team.

Alongside the first and second XI they have developed a new ground with changing facilities and a clubhouse, mainly through the hard work of a number of volunteers within the club.

The St Florence Girls team meanwhile, won the best Grassroots Project of the Year.

They were set up by Geraint Jones and Kelly Thomas last year to give girls the opportunity to play football, encouraging them to be active and develop their skills. Their dedication and commitment has now seen the club enter four teams from in the Pembrokeshire Women's and Girls League, from Under 10-16 level.

Also honoured was goalkeeping coach Bernard Steer, who won the Outstanding Achievement Award after a lifetime of dedication to the sport.

Bernard has worked with Haverfordwest Academy and he is currently working with Carmarthen Town AFC Academy and the Pembrokeshire Schools Football Association. He also runs goalkeeper coaching sessions for local youngsters and takes goalkeeper sessions at Tenby AFC Soccer Schools - all this despite being 79.

All winners will now be finalists for the national FAW awards, and should they succeed, will be presented to the crowd at half time of the Wales v Denmark game at the Cardiff City Stadium in November.
