Pembrokeshire football previews and predicitions for Saturday, October 13th:

Senior Cup Round 1 (2pm):

Johnston 2-3 Carew

When this tie was originally scheduled, I envisaged a pretty comfortable win for Carew.

But while I still think they'll prevail, it's going to be tough for them at Glebelands.

Johnston currently look stronger than they have done for some time. Ryan Doyle and Scott Crawford are scoring goals and the likes of Luke Hayward, Steve Allen, Sion Price and Joe John have all returned to add experience and quality.

And they will be up for this. They have a 100% record in Divsion 2 so far and won in the West Wales Cup last week, but a win over Carew would really get people taking note.

However, I expect The Rooks to be going all out here too.

Alex Bayley's last gasp goal gave them a draw against Goodwick last week and they remain in the early Division 1 title picture - but I still suspect the cup competitions represent their best chance of silverware.

They proved their credentials on that front last season by reaching two semi finals so a difficult away tie is nothing new for Rob Scourfield and his players.

And while it won't be easy on what could be a heavy Glebelands pitch given the forecast, my hunch is The Rooks will come through a tricky test.

Llangwm H'west CC 1-5 Herbrandston

Herbie took the chance to get a vital win on the board against Swansea Bay in the West Wales Cup on Saturday, and they should build more momentum with another one here.

Llangwm are struggling in Division 2 with just one point from six games, and while on the one hand this is a shot to nothing for them, I dare say a Senior Cup run is far from their main priority this season.

Both Scott Reid and Marc Gelona reveled in the space on Saturday to score twice each, and Sean Thomas' men should have too much going forward for the hosts.

Round 2 (2pm):

Lamphey 1-3 Hakin United

Three weeks ago, I would have predicted a much bigger win for Hakin.

But when they met on September 29th, it took a late Justin Harding penalty for The Vikings to beat Lamphey at The Obs, and The Stags were a lot better that day than their current league position suggests.

Billy Goodrick will hope that display has helped his team turn a corner, although Hakin will arrive on the back of a 5-2 win at Llandeilo on Saturday, with young midfielder Camron Thomas grabbing a hat trick to underline his potential.

The Vikings should go through here, but if Lamphey can produce the same commitment as when they last faced the champions, they won't make it easy.

Monkton Swifts 3-2 Goodwick United

I've pondered long and hard here, and am still not convinced I'm correct.

But since being hammered by Carew on the opening night of the season, Monkton have been in rampant form. James Russell has continued his form of last season and Dylan Davies has proved a good signing, but they are just two of many players in form.

Saturday though, will be the most organised defence they've played against and safe to say they won't be racking up double figures.

To state the obvious, they will also have to marshal the in-form Jordan Griffiths, but The Swifts were one of the few sides to beat Goodwick last season and Wayne O'Sullivan will know this represents a real test for his squad.

Of course, The Phoenix Boys are a great cup side, but I'll stick my neck out here and go for a home win. Just.

Pendine 2-3 Solva

Both teams had disappointing away days in the West Wales Cup on Saturday, and yet both reached this stage of the Senior Cup with an upset win in Round 1.

New midfielder Leo Dinmore shone as Solva beat Neyland 4-2, and Connor Bowen and Callum Siddell both scored twice for Pendine in their dramatic 5-4 win over Prendergast Villa.

And while the priority for both sides last Saturday was probably the bus trip home, they will see this as a big chance to reach a Senior Cup quarter final.

For that reason alone, this should be committed and hard fought, but I'd expect Solva to get through it against a side a division below them.

Pennar Robins 4-1 Lawrenny

After a good start, Pennar have gone off the boil with defeats in their last three league games, plus a surprise home loss to Milford United in the West Wales Cup on Saturday.

This however, is a chance for Chris Lloyd's team to get back to winning ways, with Lawrenny having lost five of their seven Division 2 games thus far.

Throw in home advantage at Bush Camp, and I'd tip Pennar with room to spare.

Saundersfoot Sports 7-0 Hundleton

Sadly, I think this will be very one sided.

I say sadly because it wasn't too long ago Hundleton were a stable top flight team, but they are currently having a horrible time in Division 2 having lost all seven games so far, with a goal difference of -35 to boot.

A 9-0 loss to fellow strugglers Broad Haven on Saturday underlined their poor form, while Saundersfoot lie sixth in Division 1 and look at home there after promotion last season.

They'll be a tough tie for anyone in the quarter finals, and I fully expect them to be in the hat come 5pm Saturday.

St Clears 4-2 Camrose

St Clears are another side who will fancy a cup run. They won the Division 2 version last season and proved at Carew last month they can match (or beat) anyone on their day.

But Camrose, when at full strength, pose danger. They gave Hakin a real game in this competition last season and through the likes of Simon Gilderdale, Matthew Price, and Jordan Raymond, they have players with ample Pembrokeshire football experience.

But The Saints are now a solid all round outfit, and if they perform to what their capable of, they should avoid any upset.

Division 1 (2.30pm):

Merlins Bridge 5-2 Narberth

Matthew D'Ivry would have been delighted with the win and a clean sheet in Kilvey Fords last week, and this is now a chance for his Bridge side to move within a point of leaders Goodwick.

They'll be favourites to do just that having dropped just two points in their first five games, and Narberth will have to find a way of stopping Will Haworth, who as scored in every league match this season as well as getting the winner in Kilvey.

Narberth have undoubtedly improved since the return of Tony Evans, with five goals in two games, and there was a scoring debut for 16-year-old Leo Morris in their cup defeat at Clarbie on Saturday.

But the visitors will need a very good all round display to come away with something from The Racecourse.

Neyland 1-3 Clarbeston Road

Clarbie are beginning to get it together after a mixed start, and the signing of Sean Seymour-Davies is paying dividends.

He hit a hat trick in that win against Narberth and the return of Dan Rees also strengthens the defensive options for Matthew Ellis.

Neyland meanwhile, were given a West Wales Cup walkover by Caerbryn, but in truth they would have benfitted more from playing and winning.

Andrew Kemp's side are struggling to get going with just one win over Milford to their name so far, and need a good result to kick start their season.

But Clarbie's firepower and the form of Seymour-Davies makes them favourites for me.
