Welsh Veterans League: Hakin United Over 40s 3-1 Pencoed Athletic Over 40s

Second half goals from Michael McCarthy, Ali Davies, and Richard Nash sealed three points for Hakin Over 40s after they had trailed at the break to Pencoed Athletic at The Obs this afternoon.

The Vikings had an early chance when Nash teed up Stuart MacDonald, but his close range shot was well saved by visiting keeper Brian Brooks.

But it was the visitors who edged the first half, and Anthony Smith clattered a 20 yard free kick against the bar.

Smith got another sight of goal though when home keeper Jim Payne picked up Adam Collins' back pass, and from the indirect free kick that followed, Smith was set up to drive a low left foot shot home via the inside of the post.

However, Gary Dawes' team improved in the second half, and Nigel Armstrong had a header cleared off the line before the away side were reduced to 10 men after a bad tackle on Michael Cooper.

And Hakin made them pay as McCarthy drove forward and whipped in a low left foot shot, before a Davies volley was palmed up in the air by Brooks - only for the ball to bounce behind the keeper and spin into the net.

And Hakin sealed the points when Paul Jones went clean through, and unselfishly squared to Nash to tap in.

Hakin United squad: Jim Payne, Gerard Gray, Nigel Armstrong, Richard Bland, Nigel Delaney, Adam Collins, Ali Davies, Shaun Mills, Richard Nash, Michael Cooper, Chris Edwards, Leighton Edwards, Paul Jones, Michael McCarthy, Matthew Price, Leigh Walters.
