The success of Strength Academy Wales was showcased on the weekend as six Pembrokeshire weightlifters were picked to represent Wales at the 2018 Celtic Nations Championships.

Taking place in the Capital Strength Weightlifting Club in Dublin, Ireland - Lotty Whalley, Niamh Roach. Anita Madan, Daniel Thomas, Louis Thomas and James Hart all competed, while Stephen Donovan and Darren Rogers also travelled as tehnichal officials. SAW director Simon Roach served as team manager and head coach for the national squad.

The 'Celtics' event has an extremely long tradition reaching back over 50 years where Wales, Scotland and Ireland come together annually to compete. There are no individual positions in this competition, it’s a team event where points are created by a formula allowing all lifters with different bodyweight to compete against each other fairly.

The Welsh team consisted of 18 athletes and although it was Team Ireland who took the overall title, all competed exceptionally well with most gaining personal bests.

The next event for the Pembrokeshire weightlifters will be the Welsh Age Group Championships from under 13-20, held in Bangor on December 8.

SAW meanwhile continues to welcome new members for various reasons - getting fit, losing body weight, returning from injury or poor health, just to enjoy strength training, sports conditioning, disability powerlifting, strongman, weightlifting or simply socialising with friends.
