Second team rugby: Milford Haven 2nds 12-29 Pembroke 2nds

There was no first team rugby in Pembrokeshire on the weekend, but both Pembroke and Milford Haven gave their second XV’s a decent run out at The Obs on Friday night.

And it was the away side who ran out winners, scoring four tries in an entertaining contest, despite the strong winds making handling difficult.

The Scarlets led 17-5 at half time as back rower Jordan Gwilliam had their first try, and winger Simon Stanford also crossed while No 10 Rhys Johns landed two conversions and a penalty.

For The Mariners, Garin Gardner, who switched from winger to No 10, kept them in touch with a try.

Inside centre Gareth Cheshire went over in the second half and James Trueman converted, but Pembroke tightened their grip with two tries for winger Darcy Langston, with Johns adding the extras to one of them.

It meant a deserved win for Pembroke, but a worthwhile 80 minutes for both clubs with a number of players getting much needed game time.
