Welsh Veterans League: Hakin United Over 40s 6-0 Nelson Cavaliers

HAKIN keeper Jason ‘bomber’ Morgan kept out two penalties as the Veteran Vikings went top of the table on Sunday.

Trefelin’s game was called off and Gary Dawes’ men took full advantage, despite a ropey start against Nelson Cavaliers which saw Morgan come off his line to block a one on one and save a penalty.

Matthew Price was brought on 15 minutes in though, and it paid dividends as he scored from close range after being set up by Stuart MacDonald.

The latter also set up the second when his corner was headed in by Michael McCarthy.

Before half time the home side essentially wrapped up the points when McCarthy’s through ball found Price, and he fired low into the bottom corner.

After the break Morgan was at it again to save another spot kick, before Hakin scored again when Price set up McCarthy for number four.

It was Leigh Walters who then rounded off the win with two late goals, lobbing home after being put in on goal by Ali Davies, and then firing in a low shot at the near post.

Hakin are now not scheduled to play again in the league until Sunday, January 20th, when they are away to Ferndale and District.

But before that they have a Welsh Cup game away to Pencoed on Sunday, November 25th, with the winner progressing to the quarter finals.

Other over 40s league games on Sunday saw Coedeva Athletic beat Hannon Old Boys 2-1, and Ferndale beat Swansea University 5-3.

Hakin United Over 40s squad: Jason Morgan, Gerard Gray, Nigel Armstrong, Richard Bland, Nigel Delaney, Adam Collins, Ali Davies, Stuart MacDonald, Richard Nash, Jamie Phillips, Shaun Mills, Gary Dawes, Leighton Edwards, Leigh Walters, Michael McCarthy, Matthew Price.
