The dream has a long way to go, but Milford Haven pupil Josh Hutchings has taken the first steps towards it after signing for Swansea City.

Goalkeeper Hutchings, 16, put pen to paper on a one year deal after undergoing an eight week trial period with the Championship club. This included games for the Under 17s and 18s against Leicester and Chelsea, and a tournament at Manchester City where they met the Premier League winning players afterwards.

Since signing, the former Milford United and Haverfordwest County Academy player has played away to Manchester United, and is thoroughly enjoying the experience thus far.

“We train and play at Landore and the facilities there are amazing. You have everything you need in terms of staff, physios, kit and fitness and nutrition plans.

“Of course there is pressure but it’s a relaxed environment as well. And the away team buses are very nice!”

Josh has played in goal since he was 12, and during term time travels to Swansea four times a week for evening training, while in the holiday period sessions take up the whole day.

He knows a lot of work lies ahead but the Year 11 pupil, who says he closely watches keepers like David De Gea, is clear on his ultimate ambition.

“I want to get into the Welsh squad at junior and eventually senior level.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing goalkeeper and I want to be the best I can.”
