Crunch game for Tenby and a double header at St Davids

Division One West:
Felinfoel v Whitland

It was so crucial Whitland got that narrow win over Aberystwyth after four straight league defeats.

It would have eased any fears of slipping down into a dogfight at the bottom, especially given they have a tough task here.

Felinfoel are top and brushed aside Tenby 41-3 a fortnight ago, and The Borderers will have to go up a notch.

It's a new look line up with Jimmy Buirds starting at prop for the first time with brother Scott in the back row - and full back James Stephenson returns to the club to make his first appearance of season.

The partnership of Gino Setaro and Josh Thomas is also restored in midfield.

Division Three West A:

Cardigan v Milford Haven

Milford were left frustrated last week when their KO Cup game with Pembroke was postponed, and they will have been four weeks without a game by the time this kicks off.

But Cardigan are in the same boat, and both sides will be wary of ring rust.

The set piece game of The Mariners was pivotal in their derby win over Neyland and I expect Nathan Williams will want his pack to build a similar platform here, with props Mike Cockburn and Adam Rees likely to try and turn the screw again for them in the scrum.

Cardigan’s last match was a 34-14 win in Llangwm, with centre Llyr Jones standing out with two tries, and Colin Davies will now be looking for his side to push on after a mixed start.

These two produced a thrilling game in this fixture last season, and the visitors can’t afford to be off the boil if they want to remain unbeaten.

Llanybydder v Haverfordwest

The Blues arguably produced their best display of the season to see off Neyland two weeks ago, and Steve Barnett’s side will need more of the same here.

Llanybydder made it four wins from five with that 20-18 success over Laugharne last Friday and for the journey if nothing else, it is a very difficult place to go.

One of their try scorers that night, centre Arwel Thomas, received a second red card of the season but will still be eligible for Saturday, and Steve Barnett’s side must be wary of discipline with Bydder full centre Steff Richards a more than competent goal kicker.

Craig Barnett returns to 10 for the Blues in the absence of Mikey Jones and Matty Phillips starts at No 8, with Gareth Jones also coming into the back row.

Old head Gareth 'savage' Phillips is also back in the boiler house and both packs will be braced for a physical test.

St Davids v Neyland

This one doubles up as a league game and Pembrokeshire KO Cup quarter final.

St Davids have not played since a heavy defeat in Aberaeron on October 27, and they will have to shore up defensively on Saturday.

Neyland still top the table but their momentum has been halted with those back to back defeats against Milford Haven and Haverfordwest, and while their threat with ball in hand is clear, in both those games they were starved of possession and paid the price.

They will see this as a chance to get back on track, and The Saints can ill afford to allow the likes of the in-form Tom Hughes space out wide.

The home pack will want to keep this tight, which may be easier said than done.

Tregaron v Laugharne

A losing bonus point in Llanybydder last week meant Laugharne’s first league defeat was no disaster, but they need to get back on track here.

Tries from Dorian Harries, Gethin Jones and Rhodri Rees saw them go close last Friday but ultimately, The Cocklemen paid the price for being 17-5 down at half time and with Neyland to come after this one, you feel five points here is now a must.

Tregaron have struggled thus far, yet to win after five matches, and failed to raise a team to travel to St Davids last time out. They proved in Milford earlier this season they can make life difficult for sides up front, but will need to be at full strength to compete on Saturday.
