Abe Forsyth has finished tied for eighth place at the 2018 Telegraph Vitality Junior Golf Championship, recognised as the unofficial ‘major’ of junior golf.

Played at the PGA Catalunya Resort in Girona, Spain, Forsyth shot rounds of 76, 79, and 74 to finish on an aggregate of 229 and 13 over par. The competition was won by Barclay Brown - who ended up five shots clear as the only golfer to break par (one under) with rounds of 73, 70, and 72.

Heavy pre-tournament rain had made for a tough test for all involved but for Forsyth, his performance represented a good showing as he competed at Catalunya for the first time.

The 16-year-old, now in Hartpury College after studying in Ysgol Y Preseli, also joined all other finalists in attending a media training masterclass with Sky Sports’ Andrew Coltart during the week, and the final round was followed by an official gala dinner.

Forsyth, who was a regular player at Milford Haven Golf Club as well as a member at Haverfordwest and Tenby, was one of 12 boys’ finalists to qualify for the competition.
