Division Three West A: Cardigan 12-32 Milford Haven

MILFORD head coach Nathan Williams was a happy man after The Mariners made it six league wins from at Cardigan.

“I’m delighted with the boys, he told Telegraph Sport afterwards.

“With a lack of fixtures lately and a strong Cardigan team this was a game that could have been very different.

“We played some cracking rugby at times and showed some real maturity in the second half. I’m really happy with the five points.”

They got a good start as flanker Ryan Mansell, who turned in a man of the match display for the visitors, rounded off a good team move to score early on.

And then just after home prop Andrew Fletcher was yellow carded, Milford scrum half Dan McClelland caught Cardigan unaware by diving over after a quickly taken tap penalty.

Milford also went down to 14 after second row David Round was yellow carded but shortly after the break a strong rolling maul eventually set up a try for full back Joseph Kiff.

And then the game, and the bonus point, was secured before half time as James Trueman exposed some weak tackling to score in the corner.

Outside half Efan Morgan set up the fifth try for his team when he broke from half way and set up McClelland to score, before The Teifisiders finally responded.

Player coach Colin Davies gave them momentum going forward and he picked up from a close range scrum to score, and a second try followed when second row Sion Phillips touched down and outside half Iwan John converted.

But Cardigan also lost centre Marcus Castle to a serious ankle injury, and it was Milford who finished with a flourish when Morgan ghosted under the posts and Trueman added his side’s only conversion of the afternoon.
