West Wales Cup Round 3: Hakin United 3-0 Morriston Town

For 45 minutes it was anything but straightforward, but Hakin moved into the last 16 of the West Wales Cup as a Nicky Woodrow hat trick saw off Morriston Town at The Obs.

With the game 0-0 after 70 minutes, the Hakin captain continued his recent run of prolific form with three late goals, including a sublime 25 yard lob to ensure The Vikings progressed.

The away side came down with an army of fans clearly intent on enjoying the day, and they did just that by making ample noise throughout.

And there was plenty to encourage them in the early stages as the Swnasea League Division two side competed well.

Indeed, the visitors so nearly led when striker Rhys Whitelock found space in the six yard box, but his shot was brilliantly diverted onto the bar by James Manson.

Manson also made some other smart saves and it wasn't until the final quarter that The Vikings took command.

A goal mouth scramble forced a super save out of Morriston keeper Nick Jones, but Woodrow was on hand to tap in the rebound.

And the latter soon doubled the lead as he went clean through and with Jones rushing to the edge of his 18 yard box, Woodrow kept his cool to expertly lob home. The goal however, was followed by a booking for 'inciting the crowd', as he wound up the away supporters with his celebration.

The hat trick was sealed late on when he again beat the offisde trap and rounded Jones to score - and although Justin Harding hit the post and Mark Jones miskicked from point blank range late on, Hakin eventually went through with room to spare.

Hakin manager Kristan Bennett:

"They matched us for 70 minutes and took some breaking down, and at one point it looked like one goal would win it.

"But their heads dropped after we went ahead and as an ex-defender I'm pleased with the win but also another clean sheet.

"James Manson's first half save was crucial and he has been brilliant for us in the last few weeks. When teams have had clear chances he has come up trumps.

"We are in the last 16 now so another good draw and who knows. But I'm not looking too far ahead."
