Manderwood Pembrokeshire League Division 1: Monkton Swifts 4-2 Hakin United

Monkton Swifts deservedly beat champions Hakin United to move two points behind leaders Goodwick United at the top of the table.

Swifts manager Joe Lewis was delighted with his team’s whole-hearted efforts as they close the gap at the top and have a game in hand.

However it was the Vikings who drew first blood as Shane Walsh pounced early.

Jimmy Russell equalised for the Swifts in the 15th minute, the striker coolly slotted past James Manson in a one-one-one.

But Kristan Bennett’s Vikings regained the lead when striker Justin Harding buried his shot past Michael Murray in this exciting end-to-end tussle.

But the Swifts refused to lie down as Thomas Powell equalised for the hosts, and former Viking Ben Steele struck the Swifts third after just replacing the injured Dylan Davies.

After the break the game wasn’t so frantic, but the Swifts gained some breathing space as Blake James cut in from the left and struck a vicious rising shot into the back of the net and settle matters.
