Welsh League Division One: Afan Lido 0-4 Haverfordwest County

Haverfordwest will return to the Meadow this weekend but maybe somewhat reluctantly having notched four successive away wins over the Christmas and New Year period.

The Bluebirds trail leaders Penybont by two points following their latest win on the road at Afan Lido on Saturday, and afterwards manager Wayne Jones expressed his delight.

"Delighted to get another away win, and just as importantly another clean sheet against very tough side," he said.

Lido are never an easy team to visit and were fourth on Saturday morning, so this really clinical and comprehensive win was a superb result for the Bluebirds.

They broke from the kick-off and Ashley Bevan, put through by Danny Williams, sent a low shot narrowly wide of the post.

But the deadlock was broken in the 20th minute when a long ball in reached Fawcett in the box and he headed in neatly.

Ten minutes after half time came a second goal when Sean Pemberton continued his scoring form by powering in a header from a corner.

Kaid Mohamed came on as sub and was involved immediately as he released Williams, who in turn laid it off to Tom Dyson, but the midfielder blasted over.

Lido had their first chance when Jack Todd put pressure on Steve Hall but Hartland sent the re-bound wide.

The Blues then missed a real chance when Williams steered a shot into the side netting but a third goal came in the 72nd minute, when Fawcett beat the offside trap to race clear and score.

There was no question now of the Blues stepping off the accelerator and from another set piece, Hicks found himself unmarked at the far post the guide the ball home.

The Blues return to the Meadow this Saturday, January 12, to play third-placed Cambrian & Clydach, kick-off 2.30pm.
