She only started powerlifting 18 months ago, and she’s now a Welsh, British, European and World champion.
When Jane Davies joined the Pembrokeshire Powerlifting Club in 2017, even she wouldn’t have envisaged her own meteoric rise.
“I never thought I’d be so successful so quickly,” she told Telegraph Sport.
“I started off to improve my fitness but am now training 3-4 times a week for two hours at a time.
“Obviously Paul Murphy and the rest of the coaches at the club are very good and have brought through a lot of champions so they’ve been a great help.”
In her weight category at Masters 2 level, Jane had a superb 2018 winning titles on both the national, British, European, and World stage. She also set multiple records in each event.
She’s currently recovering from a slipped disc in her back ahead of her next competition in May, and a new challenge awaits.
“I’ve recently turned 50 so have moved up to a new category – Masters 3 level.
“So there's new goals and I’m looking forward to it.”
The Pembrokeshire Powerlifting Club is based in Cresselly.
