The Division One run in.......

1st - Monkton Swifts, 55 points, 4 games left.

Simply put, three wins from their last four games will crown Monkton champions for the first time since 2006/07.

Not so simply put, those last four games are Carew this Saturday, Merlins Bridge, Goodwick and Hakin.

And it is Carew who inflicted their only league defeat this far on the opening night of the season when they hammered them 4-0.

It probably worked well that the Swifts did not play last Saturday after being well beaten by Merlins Bridge in that Senior Cup semi final. There shouldn't be any hangover and there has been plenty of time for Joe Lewis and players to re-focus.

Saturday will be a very tough game, but if they can come out of it with three points, they'll be within touching distance.

They will be without Josh Richards for two matches, sent off in that semi final defeat, but aside from that should be full strength for the run in.

2nd Goodwick United, 48 points, 4 games left.

Goodwick kept themselves alive with that win over St Clears, but winning the title from here still looks a big ask.

They go to Saundersfoot on Saturday and will be favourites there and as mentioned still have to play the Swifts, but manager Wayne O'Sullivan will know nothing less than 12 points from 12 will do from here.

Even then they are relying on other results going for them. But one thing the Phoenix Boys won't be doing is giving up.

3rd Carew, 36 points, 8 games left.

When Carew drew 3-3 with Hakin in February it seemed the result left both sides out the title race.

But perhaps The Rooks aren't out of it yet. Since then they've won two on the bounce, including beating Goodwick away, and manager Rob Scourfield was clear after their West Wales Cup win last night that the squad were still chasing three trophies.

Obviously they host Monkton Saturday and have to win. Should they do so, they will close the gap to 16 points but with four games in hand. They then have away games with Clarbeston Road (Monday) and Milford United (Wednesday) which will also be must win.

It's still a huge ask and they have little choice but to rotate players given their schedule. But they are unbeaten since November and if by next Thursday morning they have another nine points to their total, then they'll still be in the running.

4th Merlins Bridge, 36 points, 9 games left.

Bridge have a game in hand on Carew but their mentality now will be similar - they can win the title but will have to come through a congested fixture list to do so.

Their next three games go Clarbeston Road at home (Saturday), Neyland home (Monday), Herbrandston away (Wednesday). On paper all seem very winnable, but no matter how fit a team is three games in five days tests you physically and mentally.

Especially given they had a draining 120 minutes against Hakin on Tuesday in that West Wales Cup semi final.

The Wizards have Monkton and Hakin to play but aside from that their run is favourable. And like The Rooks, if they have nine points from nine come next Thursday morning suddenly the mission looks far more possible.

5th Hakin United, 31 points, 10 games left.

Another team with three seemingly winnable games coming up.

But Hakin's task is harder than any of the four above them and even 30 points from 30 (including games with Monkton, Bridge, and Carew) probably won't be enough to retain their title.

Kristan Bennett's side gave everything in that penalty shootout loss to Bridge and picking themselves up mentally won't be simple. Their main task for now is coming through home games with Narberth (Saturday) and Herbie (Monday) and Pennar away (Wednesday).

For as long as it's mathematically possible, they'll keep fighting.

6th St Clears, 29 points, 5 games left.

A solid first season back in the top flight for St Clears.

Given their games played they are unlikely to finish in the top five but Scott Page should be keen to maintain their current position for a top half finish. That would represent a very good campaign and what is in their favour is they won't be finishing with a packed midweek schedule.

They go to Pennar this Saturday after being well beaten at Goodwick last weekend.

7th Clarbeston Road, 28 points, 3 games left.

It's been an up and down season for Clarbie but Matthew Ellis has had to deal with the departure of a number of players pivotal to the previous two - where they reached successive Senior Cup finals.

Even without top scorer Jason Griffiths they managed a 6-3 win over Saundersfoot last week, Richard Bevan scoring twice.

But they could still actually have a big say in the title race this weekend with Bridge on Saturday and Carew on Monday. Following that it will just be one game left for Clarbie.

8th Pennar Robins 25 points, 3 games left.

Another side with just three home games left - and they will be done and dusted by Wednesday night.

Pennar have responded well to the Senior Cup semi final loss by winning at Neyland and Narberth - with Nick Willis standing out in the latter win.

They now go St Clears at home (Saturday), Milford United home (Monday), and then Hakin (Wednesday).

Wins in at least two of those games could yet see them finish above Clarbie ot St Clears.

9th Narberth 25 points, 3 games left.

The Bluebirds will also hope to creep up a place or two after that 3-1 loss to Pennar, but they will need players back to do so having only named a bare 11 for that game.

The gap between them and those below though at least means they are unlikely to fall lower than ninth place - and they have nothing scheduled after Saturday as yet.

Their only worry for now, is going to The Obs to play Hakin at the weekend.

10th Neyland 19 points, 4 games left.

Just the Monday game for Neyland - just as well given the weekend compromises of manager Andrew Kemp's wedding and the cricket side at the UK indoor finals in Lord's.

Their position is unlikely to change unless Saundersfoot can muster at least four points from their last four games.

They have a difficult trip to the Racecourse on Monday.

11th Saundersfoot Sports 15 points, 4 games left.

As mentioned, need a couple of good results to catch Neyland above them, but regardless will be satisfied to have stayed up in their first season back since promotion.

They've had three defeats on the bounce and were thumped at Clarbie - and welcome Goodwick on Saturday. But they did manage to push Monkton very close at home in the last match at the King George Vth Ground.

They can take heart from that.

12th Milford United 11 points, 2 games left.

Given they lost their first 12 games and started 2019 on 0 points, Milford have done brilliantly to be where they are. They aren't mathematically safe but as good as.

It's just reward for Adrian Hutchings and his players for keeping faith in youngsters and sticking together.

They don't play Saturday but finish their season with two games on  Monday and Wednesday - Pennar away then Carew home.

Catching Saundersfoot above them looks unlikely but the Robins should still be satisfied.

13th Herbrandston 2 points, 5 games left.

Technically Herbie can still climb off the bottom, in reality they can't.

Their goal difference means they would need a minimum of 10 points in their last five games and even then, they'd need Milford to get nothing. They don't play Saturday before facing Hakin home (Monday) and Bridge away (Wednesday) - not the games you want when trying to complete mission impossible.

I wouldn't bank on them being relegated yet, you never know with league re-structures always possible in the off season. But regardless it would be good to see manager Sean Thomas and his players find a win from somewhere before the season is out.
