Milford Haven Karate Club travelled to Merthyr for the second league event of the 2019 Welsh Karate season.

It was a debut for junior Gethin Adams, who fought in the novice under 12s category. From the early rounds he was the aggressive fighter and went through with great technique and discipline.

He then took the referee’s verdict in the semi final after again being the more attacking fighter - and went through to a first ever final where he just lost out on gold.

There was further success for Josh Whatling who took bronze medal in a very tough category.

Andrew John, now competing in his first season as senior, held his own against quality fighters, and just missed out on a medal.

Chief instructor Kevin John said: “I’m delighted for Gethin, it’s a massive achievement and nerve racking just to step on the mat, but to come away with a medal is huge.

“The boys are mixing it with the best in Wales and this can only make them better.

“I’m hoping to see more juniors from the club take part over the coming months. They are the future and we are looking forward to a busy season.”

Kevin thanked everyone for their support of the club and Roland Adams, who coached on the day.
