Sports people from Pembrokeshire were among those recognised for their efforts at the All Wales Sport annual awards evening in the Atlantic Hotel, Porthcawl last week.

Recipients of a Special Recognition Award were William and Joyce McGarvie for services to young people and judo in Neyland.

William (Bill) and Joyce can look back with great pride on over 50 years of their involvement as the founders of Neyland Judo Club - and they are still committed to its continuing success.

William is a Black Belt Third Dan and Joyce is a Black Belt First Dan and both are rightly held in huge esteem for their work in helping literally hundreds of former and current judoka, not only for winning of trophies and international recognition but also for the way the young people they have developed conduct themselves once they are off the dojo (judo mat).

Bill and Joyce were presented with their award by All Wales Sport website sponsor Brian Jones (Castell Howell Foods).

The winner of the All Wales Sport Award for Best Club Contact (Men) was Kenny Davies, chairman of Pembroke Youth Rugby (Game Management Group). Kenny has been a driving force in the county for the promotion of rugby at all levels Under 19.

Kenny was presented with his award by All Wales Sport Director, Ellis Davies.
