An offer to join an American Football academy – not a sentence you associate with sports people in Pembrokeshire very often.

But for Lewis Tucker, of Neyland, a unlikely dream has begun after he earned himself a place in the first ever British NFL Academy at Barnet and Southgate College.

Twice the 17-year-old had to travel to London for trials at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium along with 1500 other hopefuls, and he admitted it wasn’t easy.

“A lot of the training was fitness based with tough cardio work,” he said.

“But I’m absolutely buzzing to be selected. I love the sport and watch it whenever I can.”

Lewis, who follows the Pittsburgh Steelers in the American National Football League, will start at the Academy in late August.
