The Pembrokeshire Junior Regional Cricket Squad recently toured to the Bromsgrove Cricket Festival held at Bromsgrove School.

The squad produced some outstanding cricket over the three day festival to return home unbeaten. Led by captain Finley Lewis and vice-captain Tomos Lewis, this was a great achievement by the boys against strong opposition from Isle of Man, Worcestershire and Cardiff & The Vale of Glamorgan.

Pembrokeshire (230 for 3) beat Isle of Man (93 all out) by 137 runs

Day one and Pembrokeshire were invited to bat on a pitch which looked pretty flat.

Openers Tomos Lewis and Will Allen set the tone with an excellent 72 partnership, Allen being the aggressor with six boundaries in his 40. Finley Lewis joined his namesake in another productive partnership of 75. Tomos accelerated the scoring in a mature innings before retiring for a well-deserved 50 and after Finley had struck a patient 29, it was Rhys Eynon and Jack Phillips who took their team to the close. Eynon hit a belligerent 26 not out, Phillips supporting well with 13  before being unselfishly run out from the final ball.

A total of 230 looked imposing and so it proved as the Isle of Man batsmen struggled to get away against sustained accurate bowling and sharp fielding.

Noah Williams (2 for 12) made the early breakthrough, before Phillips and Oscar Willington entered the attack. These two ripped the heart out of the beating order, Phillips returning an excellent 2 for 7. The batsmen struggled to cope with Willington’s pace seeing him collect 3 for 10. Cian Rees and Cai Lewis then took over with 1 for 9 apiece to leave the opposition at 46 for 9. A spirited last wicket stand between Ryder Spencer (25) and James Harding (14no) took the score to 93 before skipper Lewis finished the game with 1 for 0.

An excellent bowling performance was supported by the fielders. Allen grabbed three catches behind the wicket, Charlie Bujega and Tomos Lewis each grabbing sharp low catches. This was an excellent team effort, setting the tone for day two.

Pembrokeshire (56 for 0) beat Worcestershire (53 for 8) by 10 wickets

Following prolonged rainfall and the loss of several hours play, Worcestershire batted first in this T20 contest. Another eye-catching bowling performance followed from Pembrokeshire meant the batsmen found the boundary only once in 20 overs and no-one reached double figures.

Once again Williams (1 for 6) made the breakthrough, skipper Lewis also opening with a miserly spell of 1 for 5. Willington once again troubled the batsmen with his pace to pick up 2 for 9, aided and abetted by Rhys Eynon whose off spin saw him notch a superb 3 for 3. Rees’s left arm seam added the eighth wicket without conceding a run. The fielding was again of high quality, epitomised by a really sharp catch from Dillon James.

The chase was no trouble for Pembrokeshire. Openers Finley Lewis and Dillon James put on 45 with a combination of strong hitting and excellent running between the wickets. Lewis retired for a good looking 27, seeing Rhys Phelps (6no) come to the crease. He and James (11no) eased their team home in only 8.1 overs to notch a second victory in two days.

Pembrokeshire (68 for 1) beat Cardiff & Vale (66 all out) by 9 wickets

The final game saw Pembrokeshire maintain momentum in a 35 over clash against a strong Cardiff team.

Pembrokeshire won the toss and opted to field first, looking to make use of the overcast conditions. They did not disappoint as another relentless bowling and fielding performance saw the opposition shifted for a meagre 66 .

Bujega pouched a run out in the first over, Williams (1 for 21) then trapping Lewis Popple (12) in front. Skipper Lewis returned excellent figures of 2 for 8 to see Cardiff in trouble. Once again Willington did not let the opposition off the hook, producing another pacy spell to claim 2 for 10, including the prize wicket of Theo Walker (16). This saw Willington finish the tour as top wicket taker with the impressive cumulative figures of 7 for 29. No other batsman managed double figures as Bujega (2 for 2) and Tomos Lewis (2 for 8) produced some excellent bowling to close the innings.

That left Pembrokeshire needing 67 to complete an unbeaten tour.

Tomos Lewis and Allen returned to the opening berths and did not disappoint. Lewis (13no) again batted with aplomb but it was Allen who, having seen rain approaching, put the Cardiff attack to the sword. He struck nine boundaries in what was his maiden half century, finally being bowled by Oliver Goad (1 for 8) for a tremendous 50. This saw Allen finish as top run gatherer with an impressive 90 from two innings. It was left, appropriately, to skipper Finley Lewis to hit the winning boundary, seeing his team home in only 11.3 overs.

The players represented Pembrokeshire with distinction on and off the field, leaving their coaches very proud. Nick Daley was beaming come the conclusion of the tour: "The players have been fantastic.

"They set high standards on day one and maintained these throughout. They should be extremely proud as are Jon and I. Definitely a tour to remember."
