Neyland Judo Club has enjoyed a grand opening after moving to the 'Dojo'.

After 51 years of existence, the club has moved to a unit in Thornton Industrial Estate which means they now finally have a permanent mat area.

The founders of the club, William and Joyce McGarvie were thrilled to see so many people attend the opening, with players old and new, friends, family and guests all there.

Since moving, the club has already celebrated success at the Jamie MacDonald Memorial Championships in Cardiff with Barry Watson winning gold, Ashleigh Barnikel silver and Rob Thompson and Roxy Gale taking bronze.

At the West of England Veterans Championships Rob Thompson gained a silver. The club has also hosted an inter-club training session at which players from Neyland, Pembroke, Haverfordwest, Honto (Cardiff) and Sentain (Port Talbot) Judo Clubs joined together to practice and improve their skills.

The club runs sessions for both junior and senior players and anyone interested in trying judo on Tuesday and Thursday evenings should contact Damon McGarvie via the club Facebook page.

The Dojo is also available for hire and would be ideal for local sports groups, clubs and community groups. All enquiries should be made to thedojonjc@gmail.com.
