Division 2: Narberth (65-1) beat Pembroke (64 all out) by 9 wickets

There was a poignant afternoon at Treleet yesterday as Narberth played their re-arranged Division 2 game with Pembroke - with the visitors notching a quick win.

But perhaps the result didn't take precedent over the occasion, as both teams took the opportunity to raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance after the original fixture between the two was abandoned due to a serious injury to umpire John Williams.

John, 80, was airlifted to hospital in Cardiff that day and although he has since been transferred to Withybush, remains in a critical and stable condition.

A number of other clubs also took collection boxes from Narberth's Richard Howell on the weekend to help raise funds.

The game itself was a one sided affair with Pembroke shot out for 64, as only opener Paul White (16) and No 6 Charlie Perkins (22) ever got going as Ben Quartermaine took amazing figures of three wickets for one run in seven overs, six of which were maidens.

Mike Reekie took 3-30 and Matthew Johns was also on form, taking 4-10 in 8.4 overs.

Narberth didn't hang about in the reply as Richie Adams hammered five fours and a six in his 36 not out, and although Hassan Aziz trapped Daniel Hughes (16) lbw, Mick Haltham (6 not out) helped secure a nine wicket win.

The result takes Narberth to 17 points behind leaders Llechryd and keeps their title hopes alive ahead of the final fortnight.
