Division 4: Neyland 2nds (139-8) lost to St Ishmaels 2nds (140-3) by 7 wickets

The Division 4 title race is heading for a thrilling finale after Tish 2nds kept their nerve to beat Neyland 2nds.

Both teams are already promoted but this result leaves Tish just a point behind their rivals with two weeks of the season to go.

Chasing 140 to win, it was a knock of 59 not out from Jordan Milich that helped seal the win for Robbie Thomas’ team, after the skipper himself had been instrumental in stifling the home batting with 4-28.

After being asked to bat Neyland lost opener Callum Power (8), caught by Steve Hastings off Danny Flynn (1-33), but a stand of 52 between Gregg Miller and Lewis Page seemed to steady matters.

But Miller (26) was caught and bowled by Stuart Carpenter and Page (27) was clean bowled by Thomas, and after that the home side struggled.

It took a knock of 31 not out (three fours) from No 5 Will Hughes to ensure they batted out their 40 overs - as Carpenter backed up Thomas with figures of 3-22 in nine overs.

But Tom Pritchard (2-36) then gave Neyland hope as he had Darren Hawkins caught by Gary Lloyd just three balls into the reply, and the same bowler had Mark Mathias (5) snaffled by Page to leave Tish 17-2.

However, Milich and Carpenter ended the panic with a stand of 71, the latter hitting six fours in his 42 before he was bowled by Neyland spinner Gary Lloyd (1-34).

Milich stood firm though, finishing with 10 boundaries in his unbeaten 59, and he was joined by Karl Rhead in finishing the job in the 33rd over.

Rhead cracked three fours in making 20 not out off 22 balls, helping to seal a crucial win.

This Saturday Neyland go to Hook 2nds while Tish visit Llanrhian 2nds, and for both every point will now count.

Tish sponsored by Yvonne and Russell Evans, Neyland sponsored by Peter and Jill Davies, and Graham Charles.
