Division 4: Llanrhian 2nds (129 all out) lost to St Ishmaels 2nds (169-7) by 4 runs

It went down to the final over, but Tish 2nds notched a crucial win at Llanrhian on Saturday to put themselves within touching distance of the Division 4 title.

Their 30 point win, coupled by Neyland 2nds only getting a losing draw at Hook 2nds, puts them 22 points clear of their neighbours going into the final day.

Nine points at home to Burton 2nds on Saturday will therefore be enough for them to be champions.

They had to recover from being 9-3 at Llanrhian mind as Darren Hawkins (0) and Mark Mathias (0) fell to Karl Davies and Llion Williams respectively, and Davies also ran out Danny Flynn without scoring.

But it was Rhead and Steve Williams who rebuilt matters, the latter top scoring with 44 not out while Rhead reached 32 before giving a return catch to Nigel Delaney.

Kevin Bowen hammered a useful 27 before becoming the second victim of Davies, who finished with 3-30 after also trapping Robbie Thomas lbw for 10.

The Tish total of 169-7 looked a useful one though, and sure enough the home batsmen struggled against some tight bowling.

In fact only two players reached double figures as skipper Iwan James came in at No 3 and held up the visitors with 52, and he found support from No 6 Nigel Delaney who was also patient for his 28.

But wickets for Danny Flynn (3-23), Williams (2-46) and Thomas (1-10), plus a run out, saw the Cows head into the final over on 129-9.

And it was then Jordan Milich who sealed maximum points by trapping RV Jones (3) lbw to finish with 3-13 from his 8.1 overs.

It means even just a winning draw will be enough for Thomas and co to go up as champions on Saturday, while Neyland 2nds can only hope they slip up and then take advantage by winning themselves, ironically also against Llanrhian 2nds at the Athletic Club
