Teams from around Wales and England took part in the West Wales Special Olympic Sport weekend - a mixture of taster sessions and competitions in a variety of sports.

And as part of it, Pembrokeshire Weightlifting hosted a powerlifting taster session for Special Olympic athletes, which was a fantastic success. Clubs from North Wales, Carmarthen, Pembrokeshire and Worcester thoroughly enjoyed the session.

Following the taster session Special Olympic and unified junior members from Pembrokeshire Weightlifting took part in their first unified competition.

In the Special Olympic division Bleddyn Gibbs performed with outstanding technique and demonstrated excellent composure throughout. Bleddyn, 15, was successful in a 70kg squat, 55kg bench press and 80kg deadlift.

In the unified division, Grace Morris lifted with exceptional success as did the other junior members from both Strength Academy Wales and South Pembs Weightlifting Club.

Pembrokeshire Weightlifting is an accredited centre for Special Olympic Great Britain and is the only Special Olympic Powerlifting centre in Wales. A group of the Pembrokeshire Weightlifting volunteers are also registered with Special Olympic Great Britain.
