Pembrokeshire football fixtures for Saturday, October 5th (2pm):

Division 1:

Carew 3-1 Narberth

Carew would have been frustrated by the defeat at Hakin last week. Ok, perhaps they had Tom Davies to thank it wasn't more but when they did click second half they more than matched the hosts.

Problem was it all came too late.

There won't be much margin for error for potential title challengers this year so they must respond here with three points. That won't be easy against a Narberth side unbeaten since losing to Bridge on the opening day.

They also took the chance to fill their boots last week, beating St Florence 21-0 in the Senior Cup as Ben John scored seven times, and The Rooks will also be well aware of the danger former player Lloyd Hughes will bring.

This will test Carew, who lost Joe Leahy back to Merlins Bridge in the week, but I think they'll come through it.

Clarbeston Road 2-3 Monkton Swifts

Clarbie were better last week than the 4-1 scoreline at Goodwick suggested, but they suffered yet another blow on the goalkeeper front with Matthew Davies badly injuring his elbow.

It means more juggling for manager Matthew Ellis, who had Dan Rees taking over the No 1 jersey at Phoenix Park.

Monkton arrive unbeaten this season although have been made to work in the last two games by Saundersfoot and Neyland in the Senior Cup.

They still look so strong going forward though, Ben Steele with a brace last week, and new keeper Stuart James has slotted in well.

Clarbie will make it tough for the champions, but I can see Monkton's winning run continuing.

Fishguard Sports 1-3 Goodwick United

For the first time since the 2002/03 season, Fishguard and Goodwick play a top flight derby.

It's great to see the fixture back and the Sports will be fired up. Their early season form suggests they won't be going back down any time soon and after a few injury problems, Dean Hopson and Patrick Hughes are two to have made welcome returns in recent weeks.

The pre-season John Bailey game between the two finished 3-0 Goodwick though and you sense they are building nicely, backing up that Hakin Senior Cup win by beating Clarbie Road 4-1 on Saturday.

New signing Ben Adams has settled quickly and is scoring goals and Wayne O'Sullivan's team should have too much for their rivals.

Neyland 3-2 Pennar Robins

Two teams who desperately need something.

Both are yet to earn a point although Neyland would have been encouraged by their Senior Cup display against Monkton, actually leading the Swifts 2-1 second half with Geraint Rees scoring twice.

Pennar meanwhile were beaten 4-0 at Bridge and have thus far struggled to adapt to losing some key players.

Both teams will see this as a chance to get their season going. Neyland's display last week leans me their way but there is no outright favourite here.

Saundersfoot Sports 0-5 Hakin United

The early signs aren't good for Saundersfoot - with three league defeats followed by a Senior Cup exit at Second Division side Milford last week.

It gets no easier this Saturday when Hakin visit, with The Vikings bouncing back from their Senior Cup exit to beat Carew 4-1.

Ashley Bevan showed signs of just how vital his return could be with a manof the match display, and the sight of Justin Harding coming off the bench to score underlined the attacking options available to Scott Davies.

Martin Langdon has also slotted in well in goal and I can't see The Vikings slipping up here.

St Clears 1-4 Merlins Bridge

St Clears are another side who could do with something with just a point to their names so far, but they too have a tough one.

Lee Hudgell got his first league goals since returning to Bridge on Saturday and having already lost once, The Wizards can ill afford to drop anything more in the coming weeks. As mentioned, the return of Leahy will boost their squad strength.

Will Evans is likely to carry the main threat for the hosts and they did push Goodwick close at home on the opening day, but an away win looks likely here.
