Senior Cup Round 2: Clarbeston Road 3-4 Johnston

A superb hat trick from Scott Crawford and a late goal from Ryan Doyle saw Division 2 side Johnston upset the odds on Saturday as they knocked Clarbeston Road out the Senior Cup.

The Tigers went to the Knock Playing Fields without a league win to their name this season, although they have been disrupted by injuries and suspension in recent weeks and were back close to full strength here.

And so it showed as after Richard Bevan fired the hosts into a 1-0 lead, Crawford levelled after being set up by Doyle's knockdown.

The same player made it 2-1 Johnston before half time by heading in at the back post from a Joey George corner - then in the second period Doyle went clean through and although he was thwarted by Clarby keeper Dan Rees, Crawford pounced on the rebound for his treble.

Back came the home side though and it was Bevan who pulled one back, before Ben John continued his recent scoring streak to level matters.

But with the game heading for extra time, it was Doyle who won it as he met a Steve Mills cross from eight yards out with a header that went in via the inside of the post.

It capped a great afternoon for the visitors, who join Hundleton as one of two second tier sides in the quarter final.
