WWFA Intermediate Cup Round 2: Carew 2-3 Giants Grave

Carew's West Wales Cup dream is over for this season as they narrowly lost at home against ten-man Giants Grave.

Back in March it was The Rooks who beat Giants Grave in the semi-final to march into the club’s first final at the Liberty Stadium - but the Neath Premier outfit took revenge in this exciting tie.

On the 20-minute mark the visitors took the lead when Richard Evans slotted past Tom Davies - although minutes later they were reduced to ten-men when Josh Davies was issued a straight red card.

Shortly after the break The Rooks suffered a further blow when Daniel Collins was on target for his side’s second.

Carew finally mounted a fight back on the 70-minute mark when Scott Ferney struck a low left foot drive into the far corner.

Eight minutes later and hot-shot Ferney struck again to level matters and at that point it looked as if the home side would possibly go on and sneak it.

However, with time running out in the 87th minute it was Giants Grave who pinched the victory as Ben Wayman made no mistake from inside the box.

It was a cruel blow for Rob Scourfield and Jeremy Griffiths team, but Griffiths sportingly said afterwards. “It was a cracking cup tie, we’ve beaten them twice in two years, so for them to nick it this year was cruel, but I wish them all the best for the remainder of the competition.”
